If We Can Do It For the Olympics...

It has been interesting to observe how many businesses in Vancouver have been able to adapt their work environments to accommodate the Olympics.

There was tremendous media coverage around VANOC’s TravelSmart Challenge; urging businesses to be adaptable and commuters to change their commuting practices.  We have heard countless stories of companies that have allowed employees alternative work arrangements, including working from home or changing their hours of work so that they avoid high traffic times.  One company went as far employing several additional laptops so employees could work from home

So, if it is possible to do it for the Olympics, why not all of the time?  This would be excellent family friendly business practice.

Many employees today are juggling work and families.  When employers find ways to help their employees manage work-life balance, they benefit as well.

Employees are more likely to stay with companies that understand that they have a life outside of the office.

As the Baby Boomers retire and our young population shrinks – more people are now leaving the workforce than entering it – businesses will be in competition for the best and the brightest.
