One of Canada’s Children’s Heroes
There are thousands of children’s heroes in Canada. The dedicated Early Childhood Educators of this country who work tirelessly in our child care centres, teachers in our school system, parents and so many more. All of them deserving of being recognized for nurturing and educating our next generation.
This week Dr. Clyde Hertzman has been named Canada’s Health Researcher of the Year for the work he has done in early childhood development. Clyde and his amazing team at HELP (Human Early Learning Partnership) have been instrumental in educating the leaders of our country and around the world, about the importance of early childhood development.
At a local level, using the EDI (Early Development Instrument) HELP’s research is providing communities with important information about our children’s development. The EDI identifies neighbourhoods where children are doing well and where children are vulnerable. Success By 6 and Children First community coalitions use this research to plan and implement services and supports for families with young children.
Anyone who has ever seen Clyde speak can attest to the passion he brings to his work and his commitment to make our world better for children. Clyde is my personal children’s hero. Who’s yours?
