Who's Going to Take Care of the Boomers?

Some more thoughts on why tax dollars should go to support young children.

Canada’s demographics are shifting.  More people are aging and living longer and fewer children are being born.  As the baby boomers reach their senior years, health care costs will rise, while government revenues will decline.  A recent  report by Canada’s parliamentary budget officer warns of this.  If we are to have a competitive and capable workforce to provide a solid tax base to pay for our health care system and pensions then we cannot afford to lose one young mind. We have to start today to ensure that our children and grandchildren are ready to take on the world of the future.

Through sound research, we know that children who have good early childhood experiences are more likely to succeed in school and in life..

Economists estimate for every one dollar spent on early childhood programs there is a savings of up to $14 in future health, education, justice and social costs.

Each of us has a vested interest.  Today’s children are tomorrow’s caregivers, investment bankers, doctors, tradespeople  ,business owners and leaders

Why should they care for us tomorrow, if we don’t care for them today?
