Will My Child Stop Crying – Part 2
I had a child who did not like to separate from me when I had to go to work.
I chose the best of child care options for her and did my best to prepare her. But all that preparation still didn't help when it came down to dropping her off in the morning.
It was painful. She would cling to me, weep uncontrollably, and still be wailing as I walked out the door.
Of course I felt tremendous guilt. What was I doing to my child? Would she be scarred for life? I had no choice. Like so many women today, I had to work to provide for my family.
Thankfully, eventually she did settle into her child care centre, loved her caregivers and had great fun.
That's why quality child care is so important. Despite my worries, I knew that the caregivers I was leaving her with were trained to respond to my daughter's anxiety.
So was she scarred for life? I'm happy to say that she is now an adult and successful in so many ways. She doesn't hate me for leaving her to go to work in those early days. In fact she doesn't even remember those tears. Phew!
