As part of our commitment to working with Aboriginal communities in BC to promote greater awareness regarding the importance of the early years in children’s development, to increase cultural awareness and to strengthen community capacity for supporting young Aboriginal children and families, Success By 6 has contributed to developing a community based interactive cultural resource designed to engage parents-caregivers directly with their children.

The Granny and Grampa Connections Box is a culturally responsive and culturally relevant interactive tool kit that serves as a template for communities to support the belief, understanding and teaching that culture and language is the foundation for young Aboriginal children’s development. The purpose is to raise the importance of the early years in the healthy development of young Aboriginal children through illustrating how culture and language are critical aspects in caring for, teaching and raising young Aboriginal children

500 kits were distributed to First Nations communities, Métis organizations and Aboriginal agencies in BC.
